Founded in 1984 by the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of REALTORS®, the REALTOR® Foundation provides REALTORS® the opportunity to make a difference by supporting the people, projects and services that shape the quality of their community.

Since its founding, the REALTOR® Foundation has awarded grants that have helped central Indiana strengthen its environment.

In 2002, the REALTOR® Foundation Board of Directors conducted an in depth audit of the Foundation in its current state. After surveying our membership and much deliberation, the REALTOR® Foundation will now direct its funding to fighting the serious problem of homelessness. We will be working with organizations that reach out to victims who have lost their homes due to domestic violence, natural disaster, job loss and other tragedies. Our focus will be on breaking the cycle of emergency shelters and homelessness, putting victims on the path to stability.

Our vision is simple: “To transition central Indiana individuals from homelessness or inadequate or unsafe housing to permanent solutions that change their lives."

We are proud to initiate our long-term commitment to the fight against homelessness by donating a total of $50,000 to:

Sheltering Wings for Women, Danville - helping victims of domestic violence and their children live safe and independent lives, and

Interfaith Hospitality Network, Indianapolis - sustaining a community-wide effort to provide temporary shelter, meals and supportive assistance to homeless families.

The REALTOR® Foundation has awarded $118,000 to worthwhile projects. Here is a snapshot of the types of projects/programs that we have supported in the past:

"Operation: Brighten Up Indy" (1999-2003)
More than 200 member and affiliate volunteers spent the day painting homes in the Greater Metropolitan Indianapolis area. Later, volunteers returned to the areas to plant trees at the homes and neighborhood parks.

Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (2002)
Homebuying workshops for central Indiana's Hispanic population.

Indianapolis Parks Foundation (2002)
Support for Foundation's Endowment Fund.

Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana “Fund for Landmark Indianapolis Properties (FLIP)” (August 2000)
A grant awarded by the REALTOR® Foundation assisted the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana to renovate five homes located on the near north side of Indianapolis.
Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project “Eagle Project Gazebo” (June 2000)
Through a grant from the REALTOR® Foundation, the gazebo and trail markers located at the Riley and Mary Moor Parks in Greenfield, Indiana were painted and shrubbery was planted nearby.
Johnson County Community Foundation “Independence Park Project” (June 2000)
The REALTOR® Foundation awarded a grant to Independence Park, which serves as the only park in the northern part of Johnson County. The grant was used to transform the park into an all-accessible playground—the first in Indiana.
Greater Indianapolis Mortgage Banker’s Association "Habitat House" (May 2000)
Enhancement of Broadway Park, Max Bahr Park, Greer Park, Sahm Park and Krannert Park
Bicycle Action Project (May 1999)
Bicycle-safety training course and mini-park, located on Indianapolis near east side, was the result of a grant through the REALTOR® Foundation.

Caulk of the Town (October 1999)
Weatherization and moderate repairs to 40 houses on the east side of Marion County were made possible by a grant through the REALTOR® Foundation.

Greenwood Fire Department “Emergency Siren” (October 1997)
Through a grant provided by the REALTOR® Foundation, the Greenwood Fire Department purchased emergency siren equipment to alert citizens of inclement weather.

The REALTOR® Foundation’s funds are raised through contributions from REALTOR®, and vendors through personal contributions and special and events held throughout the year.
